Cocktails for cold nights
Once again we asked Abel to show off some of his favourite winter cocktails this time for the colder months ahead, perfect for sipping by the fire. Abel is the Bar Manager of The Green Bar at the world-famous London hotel The Café Royal. Always looking to challenge himself he has developed his passion for cocktails alongside his love of luxury service, he takes us on a journey around the world with his eclectic warming cocktails.
Signature Cocktail - The Royal
Abel’s drink of the season, a twist on a classic negroni-style cocktail. Perfect for lovers of deep flavours. To make at home grab your best Cognac and mix a shot with a tablespoon/half a shot of Cynar and the same of Antica Formula Vermouth, add a dash of orange bitters and failing that head directly to the Café Royal for the real thing.
Classic Margarita with a Mezcal Twist - Teacapan
A modern take on a classic Margarita with the spirit of the moment, Mezcal. Mix a shot of Mezcal with half a shot of Ancho Reyes liqueur and some Mandarin Napoleon for that orange hit add a twist of black pepper and some lime and a touch of cardamom syrup for that sweet finish and you have a perfect drink for cold winter nights.
Classic with Twist - Brasserie Special
The classic with a twist, a whiskey-based special. Abel suggests nothing less than a twelve-year-old Glenfiddich, go for a shot mixed with half a shot of Vanilla Licor 43 from Spain add some lemon and pistachio to finish and if you really want to go all out at home throw in an egg white and mix in a shaker, pour over an ice cube and enjoy.
Virgin Cocktail - Appletino
The non-alcoholic option opens up cocktails for everyone, Abel’s choice for those winter vibes is a classic Appletino, it’s full of spices and flavours to excite your palate whilst making sure you’re clear of the hangover the next day. Perfect for when you’re the designated driver. Mix apple and pineapple juice with lime, seed lip spice, and jasmine for a smooth winter warmer.
