An exclusive chat with Laura Vann
Laura, let’s start with your background. What first drew you to jewellery design?
Growing up surrounded by my father’s jewellery business, I fell in love with the artistry of creating something personal and meaningful. Jewellery brings together sentiment, design, and craftsmanship, which are the cornerstones of my passion.
You founded V by Laura Vann in 2013. What was your vision for the brand?
It’s at the heart of everything I do. From sourcing materials to collaborating with makers in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, responsibility guides every step. My aim is to create pieces that balance beauty with integrity.
Why do you think you align so naturally with Clements + Church?
We share a commitment to timeless design and impeccable craftsmanship. Both brands celebrate heritage while embracing modernity, making it a natural and inspiring partnership.
How do you define personal style?
It’s about authenticity. Style should feel effortless and reflect who you are, whether expressed through jewellery, clothing, or the choices you make.
You’ve worked with global retailers like Liberty and Fortnum & Mason. What’s next for your brand?
Partnering with Liberty and Fortnum & Mason is such an honour – they curate for people who appreciate timeless design. Opening my studio in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter has also been a dream come true; it’s a welcoming space where clients can feel at home and collaborate on truly personal designs. Looking forward, I’m excited to focus more on bespoke commissions, creating meaningful, one-of-a-kind jewellery for life’s most special moments.
Finally, what inspires you daily?
Connection and longevity. Whether it’s a bespoke piece or a ready-to-wear design, creating something with lasting meaning drives everything I do.
We go in depth with Laura to find out a bit more about what she has planned for the upcoming months and find out what makes the brand tick.
From Ready to Wear to Fully Bespoke
Our demi-fine collection is an entry point into the brand. People have said the brand has grown up with me- when it began I was just out of university and wanted it to be accessible and affordable. As we have grown, we have refined some of those original elements, exchanging cubic zircona stones for white topez and heavier plating our 18ct gold. It is also no coincidence that after I was married I created a range of ready-to-wear engagement and wedding rings.
Being stocked at Liberty and Fortnums is such a pleasure, as they truly understand their customers, and curate the collections for people that are looking to discover. I take great pride that we have customers who discovered our demi-fine collection and have continued their journey by trusting me to create their most precious pieces.
What makes Laura Vann
Being responsibly made, the design process as well as the raw materials, but also the sense of originality and the makers. Our manufacturers in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter have honed their crafts over time.
I love working personally with my bespoke clients, bringing their dream jewellery pieces to life, normally for a very special reason.
The ability to slow things down and work on individual projects with luxurious materials, and rare stones. It is great to get back to the origins of design and to be able to bring joy to people. Many of our clients come through word-of-mouth recommendations, finding us for our unique style, if they have followed us and understand our signatures, such as step-cut stones and specific setting styles I can feel confident we can achieve what they want.
What does it mean to now be opening your studio in the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter
To create a home environment which feels warm and comfortable, which makes people feel at ease, and – to be surrounded by all the heritage and craftsmanship of jewellery makers – the stone setters and cutters, it is the people that make our business so unique. 40% of UK jewellery comes from here, and to be part of that is wonderful. I want to create an environment that I love as well as future-proof my business; interestingly Bespoke is the only area where AI cannot currently infiltrate -as it cannot replicate human connection, knowledge, craftsmanship and bespoke creations.
