"When I got married, I made a bold choice by wearing a pure white grosgrain flared trouser suit paired with an oversized fedora. This decision was influenced by the iconic look of Bianca Jagger at her 1971 wedding to Mick, even though her YSL white suit was a pencil skirt suit. What appealed to me was the sharp lines, intricate details, and the sheer empowerment of wearing such an outfit. Fast forward to today, it's widely accepted that brides don't have to wear traditional dresses on their wedding day. The trend of alternative looks for contemporary brides has been growing, especially with the rise of lockdown weddings and smaller guest lists. This shift has created a preference for a more streamlined look, one that can be worn again or adapted for different occasions."

Why opt for a Wedding Suit?

Wearing a suit, like the iconic “Le Smoking,” exudes a French effortless style that contrasts with the pomp and ceremony of a traditional wedding dress. It empowers the wearer and provides a sense of nonchalance. A two-piece trouser wedding suit offers freedom of movement and eliminates worries about tripping over long trains or feeling constricted by corsets. You can dance without hitching up hems or adjusting bodices, and you’ll have more opportunities to wear it again.

Investing in tailoring is key, and going for custom-made or made-to-measure wedding suits ensures a perfect fit. A good tailor will advise on the best shape for your body, enhancing your legs, waist, and curves. While men have long benefited from bespoke suits, it’s time for brides to enjoy the same level of personalisation.

Which Type of Bridal Suit Should You Choose?

When choosing a bridal suit, consider whether you prefer trousers or a skirt suit, like Bianca Jagger’s. If you opt for trousers, think about the style that suits you best. High-waisted skinny flares elongate your legs and balance your hips, while wide-leg pants slim your hips and thighs. The jacket can be cropped, classic, or oversized, with various bottom styles for different looks.

You also have choices regarding colours and fabrics, taking into account the climate, season, location, and occasion of your wedding. Velvet or satin in deep tones may be ideal for winter weddings, while an evening event could call for a classic tuxedo look. Having a personal tailor allows you to discuss these styling options in detail and receive expert advice.
