If I were building my wardrobe from scratch in 2025, I’d focus on creating a capsule wardrobe that’s intentional, versatile, and timeless. The goal is to invest in one high quality piece each month, ensuring that each item complements the others. By the end of the year, you’ll have a cohesive wardrobe built to last. Here’s how I’d approach it, with a focus on made to measure and bespoke garments for perfect fit and enduring quality:
January - Wool cardigan
A soft and versatile cardigan is the ideal starting point. Crafted from wool or cashmere, this piece is perfect for layering. Pair it casually with your white cotton shirt (April) or wear it under the navy wool blazer (September) for extra warmth and texture.
February - Grey Wool Trousers
A cornerstone piece in any wardrobe. Grey wool trousers are versatile and elegant, pairing beautifully with items like the cashmere crewneck (November) in cooler weather or the white linen shirt (July) during spring. Their timeless design ensures they work across seasons.
March - Navy suit
A navy wool suit is a must when starting from scratch. This classic piece is perfect for formal occasions but also works as separates. Pair the jacket with the grey wool trousers (February)for a sharp, tailored look, or dress it down with the cotton chinos (May).
April - White cotton shirt
No wardrobe is complete without a crisp white shirt. This versatile piece pairs seamlessly with formal options like the tweed suit (December) or casual staples like the taupe informal two piece (June) for an effortlessly refined outfit.
May - Cotton chinos
Smart yet relaxed, a pair of bespoke chinos in a neutral shade bridges the gap between casual and formal. Pair them with the merino wool knitted T-shirt (August) for weekends or with the navy blazer (September) for a polished appearance.
June - Taupe informal two piece
For summer, a taupe two piece with an overshirt-style jacket and pleated trousers with turn-ups is a practical yet stylish choice. The relaxed tailoring makes it perfect for informal occasions. The overshirt works well with the grey wool trousers (February), and the trousers pair effortlessly with the white cotton shirt (April) for understated elegance.
July - White linen shirt
A tailored white linen shirt is a warm-weather essential. It’s light, breathable, and perfect for summer. Pair it with the taupe informal two piece (June) or wear it casually with the cotton chinos (May) for an easy yet sophisticated outfit.
August - Merino wool knitted t-shirt
Elevate your casual wardrobe with a bespoke merino wool knitted T-shirt. Lightweight and polished, it’s perfect for pairing with the cotton chinos (May) or layering under the unconstructed car coat (October) as the weather cools.
September - Navy wool blazer
If I could choose one jacket for versatility, it would be a navy blazer. Perfect for formal or smart-casual occasions, it pairs beautifully with the grey wool trousers (February) or layers over the cashmere crewneck (November) for a classic, elegant look.
October - Unconstructed car coat
An unconstructed car coat is ideal for autumn. Lightweight yet stylish, it’s the perfect outerwear piece. Throw it over the tweed suit (December) for a sharp look, or wear it casually with the taupe informal two piece (June) for relaxed sophistication.
November - Cashmere crewneck
Luxuriously soft and versatile, a cashmere crewneck is an investment piece you’ll wear for years. It works with everything; style it with the grey wool trousers (February) for a refined look, or layer it under the navy blazer (September) on cooler days.
December - Tweed Suit
Luxuriously soft and versatile, a cashmere crewneck is an investment piece you’ll wear for years. It works with everything; style it with the grey wool trousers (February) for a refined look, or layer it under the navy blazer (September) on cooler days.
