The Art of Autumn Knitwear

There is a renewed sense of purpose in the air for Autumn. People return from Summer with fresh ambition, cities find their rhythm again and wardrobes start to work a little harder. Knitwear is where that work begins: soft against the skin, warm without weight and endlessly easy to layer.

Made for Layering

Each piece in our Autumn 2026 collection is designed to complement the next. Oversized jackets, unstructured tailoring, coats and versatile separates work together to create a wardrobe that can be layered, combined and worn for whatever the day demands.

Knitwear is the thread that ties it together. A cashmere crew neck beneath a coat, a mock neck under a jacket, a knitted polo in place of a shirt. Each adds warmth and texture without bulk, and adapts as the day moves from a cool morning to an evening out.

For Her: The Sleeveless Mock Neck

In the Journal, we paired a black cashmere sleeveless mock neck with black Holland & Sherry gabardine cigarette trousers. Clean at the neckline and close to the body, it sits neatly beneath an oversized jacket or tailored coat.

Without sleeves, there is no bulk under the arm, so tailoring keeps its line. It is one of the most versatile layers of the season.

For Him: The Knitted Polo

For him, a grey cashmere and silk polo shirt sits beneath a grey Zegna wool and silk single-breasted suit. It replaces the shirt and tie without losing any polish, and brings a soft sheen and easy drape to the look.

Worn on its own, the knitted polo bridges smart and relaxed, just as at home at the weekend as it is beneath tailoring.

Why It Feels Like Luxury

Fabric remains the foundation. Wool, cashmere, silk, suede and brushed finishes add warmth, softness and character without compromising refinement. Navy, charcoal, camel, olive green and rich brown tones sit alongside softer neutrals, creating combinations that feel both sophisticated and versatile.

Our cashmere is combed from the soft undercoat of goats raised in Inner Mongolia and Northwest China, sorted by hand by colour and fineness, then de-haired so only the softest fibres remain. Those fibres hold tiny pockets of air, creating insulation that is warm, light and breathable.

Made Personal to You

Most knitwear is made to fit everyone, which means it rarely fits anyone perfectly. Custom knitwear begins with you: how you live, how you layer and how you want a piece to feel.

Feel: Choose the yarn that suits your day, from extra fine merino for everyday wear to pure cashmere for warmth, or cashmere and silk for a softer sheen. A single yarn gives a fine layer beneath tailoring, while a double yarn adds body when worn on its own.

Fit: Made for you, so the sleeves finish where they should, the body sits neatly and the knit layers cleanly beneath a jacket or coat without pulling or bunching.

Design: Crew neck, mock neck, polo or sleeveless, in a smooth knit, rib or cable, and in a colour chosen from up to 33 shades. Every detail is decided with your tailor.

The result is a piece that feels as though it was always yours, because it was.

The Yarns

Every piece starts with the yarn. Each has its own handle, weight and character.

Extra fine merino

Australian merino with a smooth, supple touch and natural elasticity. Soft, breathable and resistant to creases and odours, it is our hardest-working yarn and perfect from season to season.

Pure cashmere

Natural air pockets in the fibre create a warm, light, breathable layer. The warmest and softest quality, available in single and double yarns, chunky rib and cable knit, in 33 colours.

Cashmere and silk

70% ultra-fine cashmere with 30% Mulberry silk, for a sleek drape and subtle sheen. Available in single and double yarn, in 18 colours.

Merino and cashmere

90% Australian wool and 10% Mongolian cashmere. Soft, warm and durable, ideal for the height of winter. Available in single and double yarn, chunky rib and cable knit, in 23 colours.

Cotton and cashmere

85% cotton and 15% cashmere with a soft, matt finish, wearable from early spring through to the end of autumn.

Loro Piana S160

Ultra-fine merino from one of the world’s finest mills.

Knit Types

How a yarn is knitted changes how it feels, drapes and layers.

Single yarn

A finer, lighter knit, ideal beneath tailoring.

Double yarn

A denser, warmer knit with more body, made to be worn on its own.

Rib

A raised, vertical texture with natural stretch that holds its shape.

Cable

Originally made to keep sailors warm, the cable knit becomes pure luxury as a turtleneck, crew neck or half-zip.

Caring for Your Knitwear

Store your knitwear folded, never hung, and give it a day’s rest between wears. Wash only when needed, by hand at 20–30°C with a mild detergent, and always dry flat away from direct heat. A little pilling is normal at first and settles after two or three washes.
