At Home with Olympic Champion Adam Peaty

Olympic champion Adam Peaty relaxed at home in a stone-coloured textured overshirt for the Clements and Church at-home portrait series

In this exclusive at home conversation, Olympic gold medallist and world-record holder Adam Peaty speaks with his long-time Clements+Church tailor, Ian Roper, about discipline, confidence and the power of reinvention, on and off the blocks.

Ian Roper: Adam, you’ve achieved so much in the pool. What continues to drive you?

Adam Peaty: I’ve always been competitive, but lately, it’s more about personal growth. Swimming has taught me discipline, but I’ve come to value balance, mentally and spiritually. Now, I’m driven by purpose more than medals.

IR: You’ve recently spoken about stepping back from racing to focus on your mental health. How has that changed your perspective?

AP: It’s been a transformative period. Taking time away has helped me reconnect with my family, my faith and myself. Finding peace has made me stronger and I’m returning to the sport with fresh clarity.

IR: You’ve worn a few standout pieces from Clements+Church over the years. What keeps you coming back?

AP: It’s the way everything’s made to feel like me. The cloth, the fit, the service, there’s no compromise. Even in denim, which can be tricky when you’re built like me, you guys always get it right.

IR: Has your approach to style evolved?

AP: Definitely. I used to go for comfort over everything, but now I understand that confidence comes from how you feel in what you wear. Tailoring, when done well, makes you stand taller, literally and figuratively.

IR: You’ve spoken a lot about discipline and purpose. What advice would you give to someone trying to find theirs?

AP: Purpose doesn’t come overnight. It’s something you shape through challenge, failure and reflection. My advice? Stay open. Stay curious. And don’t be afraid to step back and reset when you need to. That’s not weakness, that’s how you grow.

IR: You recently got engaged and you’re getting married later this year. What’s next?

AP: I’m building a new chapter that’s about more than just medals. Whether I’m training, spending Sundays at church, or dressing for a night out with Holly, I want to feel authentic in every moment.

Quick Fire at home with Adam Peaty:

Last trip: A short break in the Cornish countryside – phone off, mind clear.

Best lunch spot: Gordon Ramsey Bar & Grill, Mayfair, London – relaxed, classic, this place always delivers.

How I relax: Sunday church if I’m at home, time with family and long walks with the dog.

Goal for 2026: Stay grounded, swim with purpose and keep evolving.
