Aaron Shelby, co-President of the Carroll Shelby Foundation and board member of Carroll Shelby International, talks to his long-time Clements+Church tailor, Josh Gear, about heritage, horsepower and why people remain at the heart of one of the most legendary names in automotive history.
Aaron, your grandfather Carroll Shelby was a pioneer in racing and American culture. What does carrying that name forward mean to you? 
Aaron Shelby: It’s an incredible honour and a responsibility. My grandfather’s life wasn’t just about cars, it was about people and opportunity. He had a way of connecting with anyone, whether they were a racing driver or a fan he’d just met. That humanity shaped the Shelby brand, and when my family attended the Goodwood Revival in 2023 to honour him, it reminded me how far his story reaches. My role now is to carry that same spirit forward, keeping Shelby approachable, inspiring and authentic for new generations.
The Shelby Foundation remains a big part of that legacy. Why is it so important to you?
Aaron Shelby: The Foundation is deeply personal. My Grandfather received a heart transplant, so he knew what it meant to wait and hope. Today, we support medical research, mchildren’s causes and automotive scholarships. My wife Brooke’s work with the Crystal Charity Ball in Dallas continues that same belief, that generosity can drive real change and leave a lasting impact on future generations.
Clements+Church is proud to be providing tuxedos for the committee members’ husbands at this year’s Ball. What has that process been like for you
Aaron Shelby: It’s been fantastic. The Crystal Charity Ball is an event that really brings the Dallas community together for an incredible cause, and having Clements+Church involved adds something special. The fittings have been a pleasure; personal, precise and always enjoyable. I love being hands-on with the process, so seeing everyone come together in custom-made tuxedos that reflect the spirit of the occasion feels particularly meaningful.
And when it comes to style, how does tailoring fit into your world?
Aaron Shelby: A great suit, like a great car, is all about balance; craftsmanship, design and the details that make it come alive. I’ve worked with Clements+Church for many years, selecting fabrics and finishes for every piece I commission. For me, it’s about more than style; it’s about confidence, authenticity and enjoying the process of creation.
